Monday, January 31st

  • Reviewed the vocabulary sentences - study your words for Thursday's test
  • Questioning activity
    • Distinguishing between open-ended and closed-ended questions
  • Slide Show on Nuclear war
    • What is it
    • A few videos of nuclear explosions, an interview with a survivor of Hiroshima & the Castle Bravo Disaster 
  • Students were so interested, we decided to have double English today and moved Math to tomorrow
    • Finished the slideshow & videos
  • Started the novel The Compound
    • Reading Schedule
      • First test: Tuesday, February 8th from the Prologue to the end of Chapter 4
    • Read the Prologue together & discussed the base for the novel 

 

Thursday, January 27th

  • Collected IRA's for those that were done
    • The rest are due tomorrow 
  • Discussed "The Run" and how it ended
    • Assignment: Write an alternate ending OR a continuation of the story to help wrap things up better
      • 200 - 250 words
      • One draft
      • We will finish next week if we need more time
  • New Vocabulary Words - connected to The Compound which we will start reading on Monday
    • Test: Thursday, February 3rd
    • Know the spelling and be able to put the word in the appropriate sentence

  • Worked on the IRA
    • Project Due Thursday - though I will take it Friday without penalty this time so you can focus on your Memory Aid tonight

  • "The Run" Part 5 - sent to your email
  • Worked on the IRA - will have our last class to work on it tomorrow
    • Project due Thursday 

 

Friday, January 21st

  • "The Run" Part 4 - sent via email - you have until Sunday night to complete it
  • Returned and reviewed vocab test 
  • Worked on the IRA 
    • We will continue working on Monday in class
    • Project due Thursday, January 27th 

 

Wednesday, January 19th

  • "The Run" Part 2 - sent to your school email
    • Read it
    • Answer the questions by following the link to the FORMS questionnaire
    • Be sure to hit the "Submit" button when you are done
  • Finished explaining the second part of the IRA
    • Worked for 40 minutes on the project

 

Tuesday, January 18th - Back in Person

  • Returned a lot of work today - take it home and share your results with your parents
  • Introduced "The Run"
    •  A short story that you will read in seven parts - one each night for the next seven school days
    • I will email you a section of the story each day
      • Read it
      • Answer the questions in the FORMS document - follow the link in the email
      • Be sure to hit the "Submit" button when you are done 
  • Introduced the second part of the IRA
    • We will finish the explanation tomorrow and then start working on Part 2
    • You can also bring Part 1 in case you finish early and want to continue working on it

  • Work on your IRA for the last 30 minutes of class 

 

Tuesday, January 11th – Online Class # 3

  • Work on your IRA
    • Complete your rough copy
    • When you are ready, start the good copy of the pyramid
      • Be sure to write on one of the triangles that is cut, drawings go on the two connected triangles
      • Complete all the writing, drawing and coloring before gluing anything
  • Reminder: Presentation Thursday

 

 

Monday, January 10th – Online Class # 2

  • Explained the oral presentation that is due on Thursday
    • Prepare a one-minute presentation about your Christmas vacation
      • It can be a summary of the whole thing or the highlight of your time off or one day in particular
      • No reading from a script
      • Stick to the time frame
    • Work on the IRA for the remainder of the period
      • Complete your rough copy
      • When you are ready, start the good copy of the pyramid
        • Be sure to write on one of the triangles that is cut, drawings go on the two connected triangles
        • Complete all the writing, drawing and coloring before gluing anything

 

Friday, January 7th - Online Day # 1

  • Welcome Back and Happy New Year! 
  • Introduced the Independent Reading Assignment - document is in the TEAMS meeting chat and was emailed to you
    • Work on your rough copy for 45 minutes
